DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

EXAMPLE OF DOT FORM HS-7
The United States Department of Transportation’s (“DOT”) mission statement is to “[s]erve the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future.” When it comes importation, generally this agency deals with vehicles and/or vehicle parts. When importing a conforming vehicle, an importer must prepare and submit DOT Form HS-7 (See also EPA Form 3520-1).

All nonconforming vehicles less than 25 years old entering the United States must be brought into compliance, exported, or destroyed.

Vehicles over twenty-five (25) years old are exempt from DOT requirements. However, you will still need to obtain and prepare DOT HS-7 form to provide to a United States Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) Officer in order to clear your vehicle at the port of entry.

Our firm assists in preparing all necessary DOT forms to ensure compliance with DOT laws and regulations.
